What rights do I have if a bailiff calls at my address?

· Do not invite the bailiff into your house.  They can only enter peacefully they cannot use force to gain access into your house.

· Bailiffs are allowed to enter property through unlocked doors or windows.

· Once inside a bailiff has the right to seize your goods or take what is called ‘walking possession' over your goods.  This means that you cannot dispose of the goods until the warrant is withdrawn.

· Bailiffs will often use tactics such as asking to you use your toilet or telephone.  Do not be fooled, this is just a tactic to gain access and therefore rights over your property.
